State Sen. Jerry Van Woerkom Endorses Hansen for State Senate
34th District State Senator Endorses Hansen to succeed him in the Senate
(HART, MI) – State Senator Jerry Van Woerkom today announced his endorsement of Goeff Hansen (R-Hart) in his bid for the 34th State Senate seat. Sen. Van Woerkom cannot run again due to term limits.
“Sen. Van Woerkom has kept a focus on the issues that are important to our area such as improving health care and supporting our agriculture industry and the jobs it provides,” Hansen said. “He knows that I will bring that same commitment and dedication to solving local issues to the state Senate and I appreciate his support.”
Sen. Van Woerkom was recently recognized by the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan as a 2010 Champion of Hope for his outstanding contributions in the fields of health care and public policy. He has provided much needed help to diabetes caregivers in the Muskegon area where both diabetes and kidney disease are disproportionally high.
In addition, he has been a vocal proponent of Michigan’s agriculture industry, supporting efforts to ensure that the Michigan Department of Agriculture remains a separate entity and introducing legislation to address such issues as the elimination of feral swine and making $5 million available for value-added agriculture grants.
“Our area of the state is unique and while we share many of the same concerns with other parts of the state we also have our own challenges. I have focused much of my work in the state Senate on overcoming these challenges and I’m pleased that we have someone like Goeff Hansen to carry-on those efforts,” Van Woerkom said. “Goeff will be a strong voice for our area in the State Senate, addressing our health care needs and protecting our area’s agriculture jobs.”
“My work in the State Senate will be reflective of the people who live in the 34th State Senate district and the issues we face. With input from the community, I will take our community’s ideas and values with me to Lansing in order to improve the quality of life for people in our area and bring new jobs to Muskegon,” Hansen concluded.
Goeff Hansen is the owner of a local family business and is currently serving his third term as a state representative. He lives in Hart with his wife Tami. Together they have two grown children and four grandchildren. To learn more about Goeff Hansen, visit his website at: www.hansen4senate.com.
